Halloween 2019

50s day at DWE; Costume Day at RMS. R wore her Beetlejuice shirt from the NYC Broadway show.  The movie is fantasy-comedy-horror (aka Halloween-ish).  I tricked her into smiling by just asking to take a picture of her cool shirt!! B/c of the cold front, M decided to keep her 50s look for the evening of trick-or-treating w/ Ella & Valeria to stay warm.  R hung with us at the house & distributed candy to the little ones!

New York City

Day One.  Approx. 25,000 steps (12 miles). We arrived at LaGuardia airport by early afternoon & made our way to NYC via bus and subway. The rain & wind made for a rough start, but the girls were troopers!  First stop, New York pizza (at Ray's); then, we just walked past famous buildings and places: Carnegie Hall, Trump Tower, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, American Girl, FAO Schwartz (the piano), and The Plaza (Eloise) to name a few. We grabbed a pretzel from the local outside NY stand before heading to the hotel to change for the evening's show:  The Wicked (Gershwin Theatre).  So, so fabulous!!!

Day 2: Approx. 29,000 steps (13 miles). Our 1st full walking day of NYC.  No rain!! NBC store, Macy's department store (original wooden escalator), Wall Street, NYU, Union Square (play time at the park), Empire State Building (Morgan asked "Who is King Kong?")...and not necessarily in that order. But, we covered the territory!! And, Morgan is finally understanding how to use the revolving doors (since every building has them)!! We all went to see Dear Evan Hanson that evening at The Music Box. It was a more serious show (serious topic of depression and suicide), but the actors were outstanding and we were so close we could see the spit coming out of their mouths as they sang!!

Day 3:  Approx 29,500 steps (13 miles). Another subway ride. Made our way to The High Line (elevated park on former railroad); Then, we headed to the World Trade Center site where there are now 2 large pools within the areas where the towers stood with massive man-made waterfalls falling into them. On the walls which surround the pools are listed the names of those lost. We continued on to see the Statue of Liberty on a very windy day!! Lots of pictures taken - most with eyes closed or hair in our faces!! That evening, Morgan & I had girls night - shopping in Times Square (with a visit to the M&M & Disney stores), while Regan & C went to see Beetlejuice at Winter Garden Theater. They loved it!

Last day in NYC. Approx. 29,500 steps (another 13 miles)! Headed out to Brooklyn.  Walked the Brooklyn Bridge together as a family. It is the famous suspension bridge built in 1883 to connect Brooklyn to Manhattan. Then, we returned to the City to visit the "Pooh exhibit" at the NYC Public Library; walked through Central Park, passed by the Plaza (again, this time on a non-rainy day) & finally, we stopped to try a bite of New York cheesecake!!
