Weekend Fun

On Friday morning, Morgan insisted on wearing something "just like Regan" (hence, the matching outfits).  On Saturday afternoon, we attended the children's play Flat Stanley (which we just finished reading to ensure that we knew the story line). We watched Regan's St Martha's friend in the play - and then ran into Morgan's friends from Pines (including best friend, Reese!).  We drove home to rain showers which were a welcomed surprise - this was also the girls "swim time" play today!

MEE's 1st Movie ~

We took the girls to see Monsters University this weekend.  Sadly, it was quite a disappointment for me.  As this was Morgan's 1st movie, I should have known to wait for that perfect "princess" movie! Unlike Regan's 1st two movie experiences (Princess & the Frog - followed by Rapunzel), this movie was a solid C. It certainly didn't hold Morgan's attention. Bummer. Pic time - how 'bout that sun!?

Weekend Fun ~

This weekend, I hung out w/ my girls as well my sweet niece & nephew! The kids had lots of fun; Caden introduced the girls to Superman/Spiderman shows (& even watched AFTER he left).

Caden & Morgan helped me make pancakes on Sunday am (while the others slept!).  After they each cracked an egg (& saw the ooey-gooey stuff & the yellow blob), they decided they didn't want scrambled eggs after all. Nonetheless, the pancakes were a success! :)

For an afternoon treat, Ms. Sarah invited us to her "cool" neighborhood pool! [Space shuttle? - :)]

While we played, Daddy ran 26.2 miles in 4 hours & 25 minutes! Whoop! Along w/ his brother, they conquered "One of America's Toughest Marathons" - Grandfather Mtn Marathon in Boone, NC.

Pines Summer Session I - Study of Oceans

Summer Session I complete.  I love the fact that the girls love going to "summer school".  Regan insists that I NOT pick her up early!  Morgan painted shells, drew ocean animals, learned the ocean terms in Spanish, "made" a fish, etc.  It was quite an impressive "show & tell" for the parents this am.

Great example of a "common" practice in the Montessori system - mixing "science experiments" w/ the "practical life" tasks (and all the while "teaching"/utilizing various forms of hand motions). Note the various "tools" to transfer the liquids (sponge, dropper, tongs, and scoop) - w/ an ocean theme!

Regan's program was just as "awe"-some! They learned about conservation and the zones of the ocean; discussed the various ocean animals that are near extinction and ways to "save the whales".
They read the book "Island of the Blue Dolphins" and Regan did a report on Sea Anemones. I like the "job chart". She definitely thrives in this learning environment - & has met some nice friends!

Happy July 4th ~ !

We had a great visit w/ Gigi & Pops and a busy, but fun July 4th. The girls enjoyed the parade!
Family time - red, white and blue.
